The UK is imposing sanctions on five Russian banks, announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. His words lead The Guardian. In addition, the sanctions will affect three individuals.
The British authorities are freezing the assets of Gennady Timchenko and Boris and Igor Rotenberg, and are also banning them from entering the country. The newspaper clarifies that sanctions are being imposed on Promsvyazbank, Genbank, the Black Sea Development and Reconstruction Bank, Industrial Savings Bank and Rossiya Bank: their assets are expected to be frozen.
Johnson announced the impending sanctions earlier. According to him, they will affect those who support the “Russian military machine.” The British Prime Minister accused Russia of allegedly continuing to prepare for a “full-scale invasion” of Ukraine. Johnson noted that the developed sanctions would deal a heavy blow to Russia’s economic interests.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing the DPR and LPR, as well as treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the republics.
Ukraine and Western countries have been accusing Moscow in recent months of preparing a military “invasion”. Moscow denies these attacks. According to the President of Russia, these statements by NATO representatives are alarmist.
