The journalist from the Murcian district of Sangonera la Verde, Antonio Botías, presented yesterday at the facilities of the Cárcel Vieja, his latest work, ‘Chronicles of the Fair’, which coincided with the festivities that these days, and until the 12th of September, celebrates the capital of the Region. A work, that of Botías, that the mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, defined during the presentation of the book as “the living and permanent memory of this land” of Murcia.
At the event, which was also accompanied by his family and friends and other members of the municipal executive, such as the Councilors for Culture and Tourism, Diego Avilés and Jesús Pacheco, the author and official chronicler of Murcia responds to, among others, the following questions: Why did La Fuensanta replace La Arrixaca as Patron Saint of Murcia? What was the reason that led to setting the itinerary of the Pilgrimage through Algezares instead of Patiño? What queen of Spain accompanied the Virgin on her ascent to her Sanctuary? What did the collilleros do? What international event rocked the 1939 Fair? Which Murcian restaurant captivated Ernest Hemingway and Orson Wells?
«This work, divided into eighteen chapters, collects not a few unknown details of a tradition that exceeds seven and a half centuries of tradition; an interesting journey through the history of the September Fair that King Alfonso X the Wise granted to Murcia in 1266”, explains the journalist.
