Civil protection has issued a yellow weather alert for the Veneto region: still bad weather, strong thunderstorms and hydrogeological risk
Italy is preparing to face a new intense heat wave, caused by the African anticyclone Minos, responsible for temperatures above 35 degrees in several regions of the country. The Civil Protection has issued an orange alert notice for Perugia and Rome, where peak temperatures of around 38 degrees are expected. Another 11 cities are on yellow alert due to intense heat: Ancona, Bologna, Cagliari, Campobasso, Florence, Frosinone, Latina, Palermo, Pescara, Rieti and Viterbo.
The temperatures increasing will affect the entire national territory, with peaks even above 40 degrees from north to south. The first signs of intense heat will be felt as early as tomorrow, Tuesday 18 June, when temperatures will exceed 35 degrees in many areas. The population, especially children and the elderly, is invited to take the necessary precautions to avoid negative health consequences.
Still unstable weather for the Veneto. The region will be affected by heavy rain and hydraulic risk, with some sectors on yellow alert for tomorrow. The bad weather that has hit the centre-north in recent weeks could continue to be felt in Veneto, with possible local rainfall and showers in upper Piedmont. Some sectors are the most affected, the same as today: Basso Brenta-Bacchiglione and Fratta Gorzone, Adige-Garda and Lessini mountains, Po, Fissero-Tartaro-Canalbianco and Basso Adige.
Tomorrow will be characterized by mostly sunny skies across almost the entire country, with light cloud cover along the Alps and in the Piedmont plain. Temperatures will be between 28 and 34 degrees, with peaks of 35-37 degrees in the South and in Sicily. They will reach up to 38-40 degrees in the west of Sardinia due to strong winds scirocco. Ventilation will be more moderate in the rest of the country.
The competent authorities recommend consulting i weather reports and the indications of the civil protection. It is recommended to adequately protect yourself from intense heat, trying to avoid direct exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day. Particular attention must be paid to the most vulnerable people, such as the elderly and children, to avoid health risks related to high temperatures.
