The Government of India ordered this Sunday the arrestthis from those responsible of a private children’s hospital in New Delhi, under suspicion of possible negligence, after a fire that caused death and injuries to several babies.

The central government demanded names of those responsible for the public administration and representatives of the private center, in addition to “arrest of people who were heading to the center.”
The chief of the Delhi Fire Brigade, Atul Garg, assured in a statement to the press that “twelve newborns were rescued from the medical center, although seven of them died.”

The Health Minister of the Indian capital, Saurabh Bharadwaj, had initially reported six dead babies and one in critical condition.

The head of the Delhi Government, Arvind Kejriwal, assured that “government and administration officials are busy providing treatment to the injured on the spot,” while stating in a message on X that “the causes of the incident are being investigated and “Whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared.”
“This is a heartbreaking incident,” he lamented.
According to officials from the city’s fire department, there was a strong explosion of gas cylinders in the building, although it is unknown if this was a product of the flames or the initial cause of the fire.
“There was a big explosion, (…) The nurses came out the back crying for help to save the newborns,” one of the witnesses told the press outside the children’s center.
Images of the exterior of the hospital show the building and Adjacent vehicles completely consumed by flames.
The parents of the children admitted to the center are still waiting for confirmation of the deaths, in the absence of DNA tests to corroborate the identity of the bodies, relatives told the press outside the hospital.
Dozens of people, some of them relatives or neighbors, have been gathering at the scene to demand answers from the authorities, increasing tension over the tragedy.
