Amazon suspended the foundation of the Black Lives Matter movement, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, from its charity platform, AmazonSmile, for failing to report the destination of tens of millions of dollars in donations received two years ago.
“The states [americanos] have rules for nonprofits, and organizations that participate in AmazonSmile must adhere to these rules. Unfortunately, this organization is not compliant with the rules in several states, so we had to temporarily suspend it from the program until it is compliant,” an Amazon spokesperson told the New York Post.
AmazonSmile donates part of the money from purchases made on the global retail giant’s website to charities.
According to the Post, in October 2020, the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation received more than $65 million in donations from Thousand Currents, a charity that manages nonprofit assets, but the group did not disclose what it did. with the money and several states revoked their competence to receive donations. Black Lives Matter has not commented on the AmazonSmile announcement.
