“We want to hand over power to Sudanese citizens elected by the people to rule Sudan,” Al-Burhan said, while addressing officers and soldiers in the Sixth Division, Al-Fasher, according to a statement by the Transitional Sovereignty Council.
Al-Burhan stressed the need to “direct weapons to protect the borders of the homeland and ensure the return of refugees and displaced persons to their villages in light of the turmoil in the region.”
The President of the Sovereignty Council directed the joint force to protect the citizens of Darfur to deter all outlaws.
The Darfur region is experiencing complex security and humanitarian conditions in light of the continuing civil war that has killed more than a thousand people during the past six months.
The events that took place in the region during the recent period have re-established the scene of the bloody war that erupted in 2003 and claimed the lives of more than 300,000 people and caused the displacement of about two and a half million people, most of whom are children and women, who are currently living in camps that lack the most basic necessities of life.
Al-Burhan said: “No one can bid for the sacrifices of the armed forces in all parts of the country,” noting that “the completion of the implementation of the security arrangements will close the door to saboteurs who want to destabilize the security of the citizen.”
Al-Burhan praised “the sacrifices of the forces of the Sixth Infantry Division,” and said that they are “the main supporter of implementing the decisions of the Joint Supreme Council for Security Arrangements to achieve peace and stability in the country.”
Al-Burhan cautioned against “the necessity of confronting the campaigns of misinformation, fabrication and lying through social media that are harmful to the security of the homeland, and which must be viewed with prudence, a conscious ear, and a purely patriotic spirit.”
In turn, the Vice-President of the Transitional Council, Lieutenant-General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, stressed that “imposing the prestige of the state is an urgent necessity required by the conditions the country is going through in order to achieve security and tranquility for the citizens.”
Daglo indicated that “there are intruders whose goal is to sow division and diaspora, fuel strife and destabilize the country.”
For his part, the Governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, welcomed the decisions taken by the Joint Higher Council for Security Arrangements, pointing out the importance of completing the implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement.
