A fire broke out at an oil refinery in Volgograd, southern Russia, following a Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday night, according to what Andrei Bocharov, the governor of the region, announced.
Botcharov wrote, via the Telegram application, that “during the night of May 12, air defense and electronic warfare forces responded to a drone attack on the territory of Volgograd.”
He added, “The fall of a drone, followed by an explosion, caused a fire to break out at the site of the oil refining facility in Volgograd,” stressing that the fire was extinguished and no casualties were reported.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, in its morning briefing, that it had intercepted eight Ukrainian drones during the night, one of them “in the airspace of the Volgograd region.”
This oil refinery was previously the target of a Ukrainian attack last February, without causing casualties.
Since the beginning of this year, Kiev has intensified drone attacks against Russian territory, targeting in particular military and energy installations, some of which are hundreds of kilometers away from the border.
