The infections and deaths of Covid-19 continue to drop in the world. In 7 days, from 21 to 27 February, the new positives decreased by 16% and the new deaths by 10% compared to the period 14-20 February. This was revealed by the latest weekly report from the World Health Organization, which records over 10 million new cases and over 60,000 new deaths, for a total of over 433 million infections and over 5.9 million deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
In the last week, the only WHO region to report an increase in new cases is the western Pacific area (+32), while all the others report declining data: -34% Eastern Mediterranean, -30% Americas, -25% African region, -24% European region, -16% Southeast Asia. With regard to deaths, new reports increase in the western Pacific (+ 22%) and eastern Mediterranean (+ 4%) regions, while they drop in the African region (-59%), in South-East Asia (-18%), in the region European (-13%) and the Americas (-8%).
In the 7 days under review, the highest number of new positives was reported by Germany (1.119.632, -8%), Republic of Korea (1.032.008, + 69%), Russian Federation (920.697, -26%), Turkey (541.259, -10%) and Brazil (519.785, -33%) . The highest number of new deaths was reported by the United States (13,663, stable), the Russian Federation (5,427, + 3%), Brazil (4,361, -26%), Mexico (2,027, + 39%) and Turkey (1,838 , -4%).
