After a year of 2021 full of achievements (with Olympic and world gold) Rebeca Andrade was chosen this Tuesday (7) as the Best Athlete of the Year at the Brasil Olímpico Awards among women, beating two other medalists at the Tokyo Games: Ana Marcela Cunha (water marathon) and Rayssa Leal (skateboard).
Among men, the conquest went to Isaquias Queiroz (canoeing), who beat the first Olympic gold medalist in surfing Italo Ferreira and Hebert Conceição (boxing). With the victory achieved on the stage of Teatro Tobias Barreto, in Aracaju, the Bahian became the greatest winner in the history of the award, with four achievements.

Guys Award
Who also shone was the volleyball player Fernanda Garay, who was chosen as Athlete of the Fans. The athlete, who played a prominent role in winning silver for Brazil at the Tokyo Games, won an election among 20 competitors that received more than 400,000 votes.

Adhemar Ferreira Trophy
Another honoree of the night was former basketball player Janeth Arcain, who received the Adhemar Ferreira da Silva Trophy, awarded to sporting personalities who hold values that have marked the jumper’s life and career (ethics, collective spirit, technical and physical efficiency, respect for others and fellowship).
Technical
In addition to the athletes, the coaches were awarded. The COB chose the six champion coaches at the Japan Olympics: Fernando Possenti (water marathons), Francisco Porath (artistic gymnastics), Javier Torres (sailing), Lauro Souza (speed canoeing) and Mateus Alves (boxing) in individual sports and André Jardine (technician of the Brazilian soccer team) in the press conferences.
Hall of Fame
Just before the start of the awards ceremony, four names were entered into the Hall of Fame: Magic Paula, basketball world champion in 1994 and silver at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, Sebastián Cuattrin, 11 medals at the Pan American Games at speed canoeing, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva, two-time Olympic champion in the triple jump, and Tetsuo Okamoto, first Olympic medalist in Brazilian swimming.
