The interrogation of the Bianconeri CEO Arrivabene lasted about three hours. For now, only the search decree can be sent
Turin – The Federcalcio asked for information on the investigation into Juventus’ financial statements and on the material purchased from the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office, which immediately made itself available to collaborate as far as the investigation allowed. But the investigation it could widen. According to the Turin prosecutors, “the entire football system is sick”.
Different profiles not only criminal but also sporting offenses that the Football Association will have to evaluate. This is what emerges from areas of the subalpine courthouse, according to which the numerous wiretapping – now classified – elements of interest for sports justice could emerge. For now, only the search decree can be sent: the secret interrogation reports, the wiretaps and the material covered by the secret of the investigation cannot be disclosed until the investigation is closed. The investigation, in particular, revolves around the financial statements for the three-year period 2019-2021.
The thud on the stock exchange
The speech to the team on Saturday, today to the employees. Andrea Agnelli continues to “reassure and reassure everyone”, but the “perfect storm” is consumed on the stock market for Juventus. The stock collapses on the first day of trading after the suspects for the capital gains case, which also coincides with the start of the € 400 million capital increase. Stopped and then readmitted to negotiations, its value dropped to 7.5% and then recovered something and closed at € 0.43 (-6.3%) more or less at the same time as, in Turin, the managing director Maurizio Arrivabene left the power of attorney after a hearing lasting over three hours.
The investigation
Marco Gianoglio, Ciro Santoriello and Mario Bendoni, the pool of magistrates investigating the Juventus accounts, listened as a witness to the manager, CEO of the club since July after joining the board of directors nine years ago. The interrogation was secreted, as already happened on Saturday with the much longer one – nine hours – of Federico Cherubini, the general manager who replaced Fabio Paratici in the summer, considered by the investigators to be the author of the “preventive planning” of capital gains and for this reason investigated with the president Andrea Agnelli and the vice president Pavel Nedved.
The other interrogations
Soon it could be the turn of other executives at the Palace of Justice. The hearings of Paolo Morganti, who is Cherubini’s operating arm, as well as those of Stefano Bertola and Marco Re, respectively former Chief Corporate & Financial Officer and former financial manager, have already been scheduled according to what is learned, both investigated with Stefano Cerrato, who of Juventus is the current Chief Corporate & Financial Officer. It investigates the budgets of the last three years, and on suspicious capital gains of 282 million euros, so there are so many elements to be analyzed in the offices on the fifth floor of the Palace of Justice. Payments that do not correspond to the transactions concluded, invoices for non-existent transactions, but also fictitious mandates and maxi commissions to players’ agents. He is closely following the Exor affair, the holding company of the financial company Agnelli which holds control of Juventus, because Consob could also take initiatives if false communications to the markets emerge. The shareholders’ meeting is scheduled for tomorrow and it is not excluded that the president John Elkann, on Saturday evening at the stadium next to his cousin Andrea, will have to be called to answer the questions of the shareholders on the subject. However, the offenses still remain to be proven.
Sports Justice is interested
And now? Sports Justice has placed the spotlight on the matter, ready to ask for the documents and subject them to careful evaluation. According to what leaks from environments close to the investigations, in fact, the multiple profiles that emerge from the interceptions may not have criminal relevance but be of great interest for sports justice. It is no coincidence that the Football Federation, which had already lit a beacon on capital gains in recent months, requested detailed information from the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office. The capital gains phenomenon, moreover, would not only concern Juventus but would affect the entire football system.
