Shaaban Bilal (Rafah)
Palestinian Red Crescent spokesman Raed Al-Nims warned that the lives of thousands of patients and injured people in the Gaza Strip are in great danger due to the collapse of the medical system and the exit of most hospitals from service, calling for rapid international intervention to save lives and stop the war.
He explained in statements to Al-Ittihad that the residents of Gaza are greatly affected by the high temperatures and lack of services, especially in shelters that are witnessing a state of severe overcrowding due to the repeated displacement movements, which increases the spread of diseases and epidemics, especially among children, the elderly, those with chronic diseases, those with special needs and those with weak immunity.
Raed Al-Nams added that the severe shortage of medical resources and the shutdown of a large number of hospitals affected the lives of thousands of patients and injured people, especially since a small number of hospitals in the sector that are still operating suffer from a severe shortage of supplies, especially fuel, oxygen, sterilization tools, surgery and anesthesia.
He stressed that the large crowding of patients in the hospital, intensive care and service departments limits the provision of medical services, as the working teams find it difficult to provide services as a result of these challenges they face on the ground.
The spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society stated that there are approximately 350,000 people with chronic diseases who are unable to obtain medical services, in addition to the spread of epidemics and diseases due to sewage and the disruption of municipal services. In addition, the overcrowding of displaced people in shelters that lack the minimum requirements for public health makes the situation catastrophic, which naturally requires urgent international intervention.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society warned, in a previous report, of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Strip, considering that the continued closure of the crossings, especially the vital Rafah crossing, and the complete prevention of the entry of humanitarian aid, including food, medicine and fuel, portends a humanitarian and health disaster.
She said that preventing humanitarian aid from entering the Strip means that famine is imminent, as food stocks are running out, the war continues and more than 85% of the population has been displaced.
