British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised US President Joe Biden’s performance on Monday, praising his decision to withdraw from running in the upcoming US presidential election.
“His (Biden’s) presidency will leave a legacy that extends beyond America’s borders,” Starmer said, noting his “steadfast determination to stand with the Ukrainian people.”
The British Prime Minister added that Biden “leaves NATO stronger than it has been in decades.”
The prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House raises concerns in some European countries, as the former Republican president has long considered his European allies’ financial commitment to defense insufficient.
NATO, founded in 1949 to counter the threat from the Soviet Union and now comprising 32 member states, has played a pivotal role since the current Ukraine crisis erupted in 2022, coordinating support for Kyiv and adding two new countries, Finland and Sweden.
Starmer also praised Joe Biden, “a man who, in his five decades of public service, has never lost sight of the concerns of working people and has always put his country first.”
The British Prime Minister said that the US President’s decision to abandon his candidacy “was not an easy decision.”
