Therapist Anastasia Agaeva: The bite of a black widow spider causes shortness of breath and vomiting
In some regions of Russia, mainly in the south, there is a karakurt spider that releases a strong poison when it bites, warned Anastasia Agaeva, a therapist at the medical company SberZdorovye. She described the dangerous health consequences of such bites to Lenta.ru.
Agaeva explained that female black widow spiders are dangerous to humans, biting through skin and even nails. The spiders inject poison under the skin, causing shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, headache, vomiting, and increased sweating. After a bite, confusion of thoughts and speech may also develop, and intense emotions and movements may appear, the doctor added.
“This condition turns into delirium if you do not seek medical help in time. In addition, the abdominal muscles tense up sharply. After 20-40 minutes, chills, pain in the chest, arms and legs occur, the whole body begins to burn. Then severe weakness sets in. With timely treatment, recovery occurs in two to three weeks,” the therapist said.
The interlocutor of Lenta.ru urged that if a black widow spider bites you, you should seek help as quickly as possible at the nearest clinic, hospital, or first aid station, or call an ambulance, since its venom can be fatal.
