Police suspects 135 Elokapina protesters who did not obey the police’s order to leave for beheading.
The demonstration was organized on June 11. It was part of Elokapina’s Storm Warning protest campaign, which opposes subsidies that are harmful to the environment.
At the demonstration, the police ordered the participants to leave at the intersection of Kaisaniemenkatu and Unioninkatu. Some of the protesters did not follow the order and were arrested by the police. According to the police release, the order to leave was given after the protesters blocked the flow of traffic.
Police also clarify their own actions in the same demonstration. The investigation is related to the proportionality of the police’s actions. By Monday afternoon, the Helsinki police have not commented on the progress of the investigation.
Elokapina published a video of the protest on its YouTube channel. In the video at around 17:45, you can see how the police push the protester so that he falls to the ground.
Professors of Criminal Law Sakari Melander and Matti Tolvanen assessed on Sunday to HS that the shoving shown in the video seems like an excessive use of force.
