Terrorists launched an attack on the town of Mansilla in northeastern Burkina Faso, near Niger, and the exact outcome of the attack is not yet known, as local and security sources announced yesterday.
The town’s Pupils and Students Association said, in a statement posted on social media, that gunmen “attacked our homes, shops, and all other institutions in the town.” The statement added: “Until now, many of our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters are still missing,” calling on the authorities to “restore security.”
A security source confirmed the attack and said: “It is difficult to give an accurate toll, but losses were recorded in Mansilla.”
The authorities did not announce this attack, which was claimed by the “Supporting Islam and Muslims” group, which is affiliated with the terrorist organization “Al-Qaeda,” and therefore did not specify any toll.
Last Friday, the head of the ruling military junta in Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, appeared on television donating blood in the capital, Ouagadougou, after an incident that state television in Burkina Faso said was a “shooting incident.” Yesterday, the presidency published a message wishing a happy Eid to the country’s Muslims, accompanied by a picture of Traoré performing prayer.
Since 2015, Burkina Faso has faced acts of terrorist violence attributed to armed groups linked to the terrorist organizations Al-Qaeda and ISIS, which led to the death of about twenty thousand people and the displacement of more than two million people within the country.
