The Federal District Penitentiary Administration Secretariat (Seape-DF) is investigating whether inmate Lucas Costa Brasileiro, accused of participating in the coup acts on January 8, 2023, suffered attacks in the Papuda Complex. On June 6, Lucas was one of the targets of a Federal Police (PF) operation that recaptured those involved in the Attack on the Three Powers who were on the run or failed to comply with precautionary measures.
According to Seape, Lucas claimed to have suffered attacks during the prison screening. After the complaint, he was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). In parallel to the IML exams, the ministry informs that it has started a process “to determine the veracity of the facts”.
“Seape reinforces that all institutional procedures in the penitentiary system are carried out within the law and are not consistent with any misconduct by its employees”, states the organization, in a note.
To the Estadão, district deputy Fábio Félix (PSOL), president of the Human Rights Commission of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF), says he is following the complaint. “The prison system must respect people’s dignity so that it can be a space for resocialization,” says Felix.
In a video published on social media, Evandro Brasileiro, Lucas’s father, denies that his son failed to comply with the precautionary measures imposed by the courts. “What they are doing is absurd. It’s a lot of pressure. I can’t take it anymore”, said Evandro.
