Nebenzya called the US resolution on the Gaza truce deal a “pig in a poke”
The American resolution on the truce deal in the Gaza Strip is a “pig in a poke.” Moscow has questions about this document, said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, writes TASS.
“We always have a positive attitude towards any diplomatic efforts on the ground aimed at reconciliation, the parameters of which suit both sides. At the same time, we have a number of questions regarding the American draft resolution,” he noted.
The Security Council “welcomes a certain deal, the final contours of which are still unknown to anyone, perhaps with the exception of the mediators,” Nebenzya complained. In essence, they are offering us a “pig in a poke,” the permanent representative emphasized.
Earlier, United States President Joe Biden announced that Israel had submitted a new ceasefire proposal to Hamas in the Gaza Strip. According to Biden, the proposed deal consists of three stages: the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of hostages from Hamas captivity, an indefinite ceasefire and the beginning of reconstruction of Gaza after the fighting.
On June 10, the UN Security Council adopted a US resolution with Joe Biden’s plan for a ceasefire in Gaza. During the voting, the resolution was supported by 14 countries. According to the agency, Russia abstained.
