Jannik Sinner on the pitch today in Paris for the Roland Garros semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz. The Italian, number 2 in the draw and soon to be number 1 in the world, faces the Spaniard, seeded number 3, in a match which – live on TV and streaming – is destined to monopolize the attention of the sporting day.
The program for Thursday 7 June also features the semi-final of the women’s doubles, with Jasmine Paolini – extraordinary singles finalist – and Sara Errani opposing the Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk and the Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse on the Simonne-Mathieu court from 1pm.
Jannik vs. Carlos
The two standard-bearers of the new generation of tennis take to the court no earlier than 2.30 pm on the pink clay of the Court Philippe Chatrier. Sinner is fresh from the victory in 3 sets against the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, Alcaraz beat the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas with the same set.
The two rival-friends compete for a place in the final – in the major that neither of them has yet won – where the winner of the second semi-final between the German Alex Zverev, winner in Rome, and the Norwegian Casper Ruud will then land. Sinner and Alcaraz arrive at the key event of the season on clay after having overcome physical problems that have affected the European spring.
The Italian had to stop due to a hip problem, the Spaniard missed several tournaments due to a sore forearm: both deserted the Italian Internationals, recovering vital energy for the Paris marathon.
Previous
Sinner and Alcaraz face each other for the ninth time in their career. So far, the score is perfectly equal: 4-4 in the rivalry that promises to mark an era in tennis. Sinner won the only direct match on clay, in 2022 in Umag. Alcaraz, who expresses himself at the highest levels on the slowest surface, won the only duel staged in 2024: in Indian Wells, on Californian hard courts, he won in 3 sets in the semifinal of the Masters 1000.
The match on TV and streaming
The challenge will not start before 2.30pm. It will be broadcast live on Eurosport 1 HD and Eurosport 2 HD channels and in live streaming on the Eurosport, Discovery+, Sky Go, Now and DAZN platforms.
