The use of Western weapons to strike Russia “would also very dangerously raise the possibility of direct involvement of NATO countries”
“It would be a mistake because it could lead to the spiraling of the conflict instead of easing it.” With these words the general Roberto Vannacciindependent candidate on the League’s lists in the European elections of 8-9 June, comments with Affaritaliani.it the possibility that NATO and the United States will lift the ban on Ukraine from using Western weapons to directly strike Russian territory.
“Removing these restrictions would be a serious mistake on the part of NATO because it would mean that the supply of armaments to Ukraine would no longer be seen as an action to defend Kiev from Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory but would in all respects be an activity military aimed at neutralizing not only the offensive capabilities of the Russian armed forces but also the industrial and productive infrastructure, also directly involving the Russian civilian population in the war. And all of this would lead to a spiraling of the conflict which could lead to the crossing of that thin red line that demarcates the border of “no return”“.
Vannacci adds: “I would not like this decision by the US Administration to be taken in view of the possible next change of leadership at the White House, with the presidential elections in November 2024, to put the possible new US leadership faced with a status quo difficult to change and therefore, in fact, in a starting situation of absolute crisis. Leave a hot potato to the new occupant of the White House it could be a specific strategy pursued by this overseas Administration perhaps without worrying too much about the possible tragic consequences that this choice would entail for us Europeans“.
“The company name of BORNFurthermore, it is that of “a political-military alliance for defensive purposes” which has already gone very far in direct military support to a country that is not part of the Alliance itself. This further move would consolidate the belief towards the international system that the Atlantic Alliance has definitively changed its function and I don’t know how much good this initiative does for NATO itself.”
“Stoltenberg’s appeal also comes at a time when public opinions in almost all major European countries are very cold, if not opposed, to perpetrating unconditional military support for Ukraine. The intervention of the Secretary of NATO is no coincidence arrives at the dawn of the European Parliament elections, almost as if to obtain an answer before the anti-war intentions of many parties that say enough to the supply of weapons to Kiev and that lean towards promoting negotiations are crystallized with the results of the polls aimed at silencing the cannons rather than arming them. First Macron’s joke about sending troops BORN in Ukraine, now the appeal of the NATO secretary who wants to hit Russia on its territory with the Alliance’s weapons: someone wants to force us to make irrational and counterproductive decisions. Support for Kiev hangs in the balance for the foreseeable future. Stoltenberg knows this and would like to bring forward a choice that he knows is not shared by European public opinion.”
Using Western Weapons to Hit Russia”it would also very dangerously raise the possibility of direct involvement of NATO countries in the conflict because, if hit on their own territory, the Russians could legitimately decide to attack the armaments supply lines from the West to Russia, thus causing the spiraling of the conflict which would increase the possibility of direct involvement of the NATO countries in the war. And this, perhaps, is a condition under which – with the British Foreign Secretary in mind David Cameron – many dangerous and unscrupulous politicians would like to bog down the whole of NATO in a conflict with the Russian Federation to reduce, once and for all, its international aspirations”.
