Saldo said that Ukraine has begun a massive discharge of water from the Dnieper hydroelectric station
Ukraine has begun an urgent release of water from the Dnieper hydroelectric station, the governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, announced this. According to him, all the sluices at the dam are open, and water will flow within several days.
The settlements of the coastal zone of the Kherson region are not threatened by a large flood, however, the islands in the Dnieper delta are in the most likely flood zone
In turn, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) reported that they do not expect risks due to the discharge of water from the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Station, located upstream of the Dnieper.
Official Ukrainian sources have not yet commented on the information received.

In the Zaporozhye region they denied information about the opening of the floodgates
The chairman of the Zaporozhye public movement “We are together with Russia,” Vladimir Rogov, denied information about the opening of the Dnieper hydroelectric power station gateways in Ukrainian-controlled Zaporozhye.
Information about the opening of locks in Zaporozhye does not correspond to reality. The locks at the DneproGES dam are still closed. Probably, there was an inaccuracy in the assessment of what was happening – the locks were confused with the sand gates at the rowing of the DneproGES
The official clarified that the shutters were opened after a missile attack by Russian troops on the turbine hall of DneproGES-2, which took place on March 22 of this year. This was done due to damage to the generators and the resulting inability to generate electricity.
At the same time, the need to discharge water has not gone away; they began to do it directly by opening the gates, Rogov added.
In March, the Ukrainian energy system suffered numerous attacks, including the DneproGES, the fifth stage of the cascade of hydroelectric power stations on the Dnieper, which was attacked by missiles. The sixth was the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, destroyed in June 2023.
It became known that as a result of the attack, the DneproGES-2 station was disabled for a long time. DneproGES-1 suffered less damage and will soon be able to operate at full capacity again.

The release of water was associated with the offensive of the Russian military near Krynki
Telegram-The Military Chronicle channel linked the time chosen by Ukraine for releasing water from the Dnieper hydroelectric station with the offensive of the Russian military on the islands near Krynki.
Considering the timing, one of the reasons is the successes of Russian troops on the islands opposite Krynki in the Kherson region
The channel notes that the Russian military, during sabotage raids, “began to dismantle Ukrainian oporniks so often” that it became impossible to hide the situation.
Military correspondent Yuri Kotenok notedthat the situation in the Dnieper delta is changing in a mirror image compared to 2022, now the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying by any means to hinder the advance of the Russian Armed Forces.
Apparently, the delta will indeed “float up”. The situation is changing in a mirror manner compared to 2022. Now they are trying to make it as difficult/prevent us as possible from crossing the Dnieper
On May 23, the governor of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo, reported that the village of Krynki on the left bank of the Dnieper had been cleared of scattered groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the fighting had spread to the island zone.
According to him, the Ukrainian army does not stop trying to land on the left bank of the Dnieper. At the same time, according to Saldo, Russian troops sink most of the enemy boats as they approach, and deal with those who were able to swim on land.
