In Russia, the revenue of beer and spirits producers increased by 6 percent
In Russia, despite the continued enrichment of strong drink and beer producers, the profitability of alcohol production is declining. This was reported by Interfax with reference to a study by the SPARK-Interfax analytical system.
According to their data, in 2023, the revenue of companies producing strong alcohol grew by 6 percent, and beer – by 2 percent. At the same time, winemakers, on the contrary, faced a drop in this indicator by 3 percent.
Experts note that the profitability of alcohol production in Russia is declining. For spirits manufacturers it dropped from 6 percent to 4 percent, and for winemakers from 9 percent to 4 percent. Net debt of spirits companies in 2023 increased by 36 percent. In addition, alcohol producers faced an inflated level of business risks.
Previously, FinExpertiza experts found that in 2023, sales of strong alcohol in Russia increased by 3.6 percent, reaching a record level (since 2017) of 7.2 liters per capita. More than two-thirds of this market segment was occupied by vodka, the consumption of which in Russia decreased by 0.2 percent, to 5.3 liters per person. At the same time, sales of cognac, rums, gins and liqueurs increased.
Also, based on the results of January-September 2023, the best-selling alcoholic drink in Russia was beer. In second place are vodka and whiskey. On the third – gin, tequila, rum and brandy.
