Landings and take-offs in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul were suspended on Friday night (May 3) due to the rain
The concessionaire that manages the Porto Alegre International Airport reported on Friday night (May 3, 2024) that landings and takeoffs were suspended indefinitely.
In a note, the Fraport reported that the measure, which came into effect at 8pm, was taken to guarantee the safety of employees and passengers in the face of the state of calamity caused by the heavy rains hitting Rio Grande do Sul.
The concessionaire also asked passengers to contact airlines for more information about their flights.
To date, Rio Grande do Sul has recorded 39 deaths due to the rains that have hit the state since the beginning of the week. According to Civil Defense, 68 people are missing.
More than 8,000 people have already been rescued by integrated security forces and 24,000 are displaced. So far, the government counts 265 municipalities affected, out of a total of 497 across the state.
Flights
A Latam reported that flights to Porto Alegre and the capital of Rio Grande do Sul to other locations are canceled until noon this Saturday (May 4).
Flights between Caxias do Sul (RS) and Passo Fundo (RS) remain maintained, but may suffer impacts due to the rain. For passengers with a flight scheduled for Sunday (May 5), the company is offering rescheduling without fine or charging a new fare.
A Blue canceled takeoff landings until noon next Sunday (May 5). The company also informed that passengers whose flights were canceled will receive more information through the Azul app, WhatsApp, email and the company’s website. Customers with tickets booked for the next few days will be able to reschedule their flights or request cancellation in exchange for credit for future trips.
A GOAL canceled all arrivals and departures until 11:59 pm on Sunday (May 5).
The company will also accept flight rebookings without additional fees. The amount will be in the form of credit for future flights. The modality is valid for arrivals and departures from the airports of Porto Alegre, Caxias do Sul, Passo Fundo, Pelotas, Santo Ângelo and Chapecó (SC).
