Dubai Municipality announced the operation of a self-driving electric vehicle dedicated to cleaning the bicycle path along the beaches of Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, as part of its efforts to maintain the cleanliness and sustainability of all facilities and tourist sites in the Emirate of Dubai, including public beaches, and to enhance their beauty and attractiveness, by employing the latest technologies using vehicles. Automated and electric, in order to reduce environmental pollution and carbon emissions from its automated fleet, in addition to providing a distinctive experience for visitors to Dubai’s beaches.
The new vehicle, which is classified as a smart sweeper, has advanced technical specifications that include: Smart sensors enable it to avoid collisions with obstacles, and a high productivity rate compared to human effort, with its ability to work for 8 continuous hours on a single charge, while its maximum speed reaches 40 km per hour in normal mode, in addition to being environmentally friendly and reducing carbon emissions.
Earlier this year, Dubai Municipality introduced 5 large-sized sweepers that operate with smart and advanced systems to sweep approximately 2,250 km of highway and outdoor streets daily in the Emirate of Dubai, enhancing its automated fleet for managing waste operations, which number 752 vehicles and equipment ranging from Automated sweeping, equipment for cleaning sidewalks and public roads, and equipment for cutting and chopping large agricultural waste resulting from farms, public gardens, and tree remains.
Dubai Municipality has allocated a field work team of 12 employees who supervise 72 cleaners who work daily and around the clock to maintain the cleanliness of public beaches in the Emirate of Dubai, and has provided them with 13 modern mechanisms and equipment that enhance the rapid response to reports and emergency situations.
