In terms of design, then. In terms of powertrain, the BMW 5 Series and i5 has never been so modern.
At BMW, the Vision Neue Class in particular is a hot topic at the IAA. But they also have two more copies of the new one 5 Series (G60) included. One of them is a specification that we may see in the Netherlands. Namely an M package on an i5, but then the entry-level model.
This is the BMW i5 eDrive40 with M package. That’s the slip-on, but then as the thickest (optical) version. You are talking about 340 hp. The new 5 Series and i5 actually make it clear that we can use the Neue Klasse. The 5 Series is probably one of the least absurd designs of recent years, and it is not necessarily a beauty.
For the people who reacted very strongly to BMW in recent years, the BMW i5 is actually same old. As said, it can certainly be worse (hello 7 Series), but the design of the BMW 5 Series is a bit of a mess. The interior makes up for a lot, although the stick-on screens are not inspiring there either. Overall, it just really feels like BMW is ready for something new. So bring on the first production car with the Neue Klasse design.
Anyway, for 5 Series drivers it is great that you can now also drive fully electrically. The contrast between the G60 and the Neue Klasse is a nice addition to the BMW stand at the IAA.
