Tigres could not get past a goalless draw against Orlando City in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions League. The feline team came onto the pitch with the best they have, but despite dominating the match from start to finish, having possession of the ball and generating several options up front, they couldn’t open the scoring.
This was Marco Antonio Ruiz’s first match as Tigres manager in an international competition. Once the first leg was over, ‘El Chima’ spoke about the result against the MLS team.
The Mexican strategist stated that he is convinced that the UANL team will qualify for the quarterfinals of the Concachampions.
“(Orlando) is a good team. We had video of the two games in their league and we knew how they worked. We tried to have references to try to nullify, but the most important thing was to generate football, that we set conditions. We have the advantage of zero against, which gives the possibility of scoring an away goal. I would have liked to have had an advantage in terms of goals, but we are convinced that we will go through”

Ruiz said he was upset by the result, but calm with the way his squad is working. “Chima” stated that Tigres has a lot of experience, with the desire and hunger to continue winning titles.
The second leg of the Concachampions round of 16 will be played at the Orlando City Stadium on March 15. Prior to this duel, the cats will receive America at the Volcano.
