St. Leonard im Pitztal – The Austrian police are now investigating what exactly happened at a party in Austria on Saturday evening. Three women aged 16, 17 and 39 lost consciousness at an event in St. Leonhard, reports the ORF. The three had to be taken to a hospital. According to the police, there is a suspicion that the women were mixed with so-called knockout drops in their drinks.

In the meantime, other victims have reported to the authorities Standard.at. According to this, nine women between the ages of 16 and 39 are affected. Five of them were taken to the hospital for examination. Other victims and witnesses are asked to contact the responsible police in Wenns. The investigation into this case is not yet complete. The police spokesman could not remember any previous case in which there had been so many victims in a possible use of knockout drops in a disco.
It is said to have been a private event in the community hall. Around 400 party-goers came to the disco evening in St. Leonhard in Pitztal. The event was approved for 560 people.

The substances are colorless and odorless and therefore cannot be tasted.
Shortly after accidental ingestion, victims experience nausea, vomiting, dizziness and unconsciousness.
If you suspect that you have been given knockout drops, you should go to a doctor or hospital as soon as possible and inform the police. Because the first few hours are particularly important in order to be able to secure any substances that may still be in the body.
Tatort Club in Austria: knockout cases increased after the corona break
The cases related to knockout drops increased after the Corona break in Austria. The Innsbruck Club Commission therefore recently launched the “NO!Ko” campaign to draw more attention to the topic. Guests and club operators should be made aware. The number of unreported cases is high.
KO drops are used to refer to different types of drugs, such as ketamine, a veterinary anesthetic, and GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid), commonly known as liquid ecstasy. In some clubs, the drugs are also taken voluntarily as a party drug in low doses. GHB is considered a narcotic in Austria and has been subject to the Narcotics Act since 2002, according to the NO!Ko campaign website. In particular, the acquisition, possession, production, import and export, transfer and sale are punishable by law and can result in fines or imprisonment.
Because of possible poisoning with knockout drops, 450 students had broken off their ski vacation in early 2022. Nine of them suddenly fell ill at a party. (ml)
