The feature film competition includes 10 films from Japan, Italy, Egypt, India, Morocco, Kosovo, France, Norway, Switzerland and Slovenia, while the film competition includes five films from Egypt, Belgium, Germany, Kenya and Ethiopia.
The jury of this competition was chaired by Egyptian director and producer Marianne Khoury, with Moroccan actress Fatem Ayachi as members, Belgian director Amelie van Lambte, Swiss director Caroline Quinaud, and Martine Ndiaye, director of the African Women Film Festival.
Five long-form Moroccan films are competing for the “Youth Audience Award”: (The Punch) directed by Mohamed Amin Mouneh, (Sayed Al Majhoul) directed by Alaa El Din El Jem, (15 Days) directed by Faisal Al Halimi, and (La Mora, Love in Time of War) directed by Mohamed Ismail, and (The Gates of Heaven) by Murad Al-Khoudi.
As for the Moroccan short films participating in the festival, they are (Afri) directed by Yousra Bouchtia, (Ropes of affection) directed by Wejdan Khaled, (Orgasm) directed by Dalal Al-Iraqi, (Wila Meshit) directed by Kawthar Benjelloun, (Andrew) directed by Nuri Azroual and (Sahara.. Sweetie) Directed by Latifa Ahrar.
The festival, which runs until October 1st, will screen a group of feature films by female directors and directors from Senegal who dealt with the issue of women within the “Guest of Honor” program, including the opening film “Atlantic” by director Matti Diop.
As part of the celebration of Rabat, a storm of African culture, the festival is organizing a program entitled (Special to Africa) that includes eight films from seven countries in addition to Morocco.
In this session, the festival honors the name of the late French director Sarah Maldoror (1929-2020), documentary filmmaker Simone Bitton, Moroccan actresses Amal Tamar and Saadia Azkoun, as well as Egyptian actress Laila Elwi “for her distinguished film and artistic path.”
The festival program also includes an open meeting on African cinema with a discussion on the book (50 years of cinema in Africa, uniqueness and diversity).
