A man from Kuopio is suspected of shooting police official cars in Kuopio on Thursday, September 15. The man was arrested on Monday in the district court of Pohjois-Savo.
The Central Criminal Police announced the matter on Monday afternoon. The preliminary investigation of the case was transferred to the Central Criminal Police, as the act was directed at the police department.
Police cars were shot with a firearm in front of the Kuopio police station on Thursday evening at around 9 pm. On Friday evening, the Eastern Finland police announced that the police have arrested a man from Kuopio as a suspect in the act.
The district court imprisoned the man on probable cause on suspicion of preparing a serious crime against life or health, causing damage, violently resisting an official, causing danger, and drug crime.
To the press release according to the preliminary investigation, a good understanding of the course of events and the possible motive of the suspect has been obtained. According to the police, it is not a terrorist motive.
Two official police cars parked in the yard of the police station were damaged by the shooting. There were no personal injuries.
The Central Criminal Police is not giving any more details about the case for the time being.
