The French justice has launched an investigation into Minister Damien Abad (Disabled Care). An official charge has been filed against him for attempted rape by a fellow politician.
Two other women have said in the French press that they were raped by him. The right-wing minister denies all accusations. He, in turn, has sued for defamation.
The criminal investigation comes at a sensitive time. The French government will be changed one of these days and some ministers will have to step down. President Macron is now being pressured to expel Abad as well.
The minister is not the only politician in France under fire for suspicions of sexual misconduct. The left-wing opposition has a similar issue.
Yellow Vests
A well-known Yellow Vest leader has accused a leftist MP of inappropriate behaviour. “He went too far when he ran his hands over my body at a party,” the woman told television. She has filed a complaint with the relevant left-wing opposition party LFI. It has been said in the French press that several women have complained about the man.
The alleged perpetrator, member of parliament Eric Coquerel, said in a reaction that it was an innocent flirt. “I have never pressured or used violence against anyone,” he wrote in an open letter to a French Sunday newspaper.
Get on
Remarkably, Coquerel appeared on television on Sunday where he was asked for his opinion on the charges against Minister Abad. ,,He has to resign,” said Coquerel. But the MP has no plans to resign himself.
