In China, and for China. It was born with a precise geographical and marketing location new ID. Aero, the first 100% electric luxury sedan from Volkswagen to debut on the Chinese market in the course of 2023. It has been labeled by many as the rival par excellence of the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4, and as a battery-powered four-door fastback it seems really have all the credentials to carve out a prominent space in its segment. And be careful, because its marketing will be limited to China only in a first phase: in 2023 Volkswagen will have a tailor-made version of this model that will be launched on the European and US markets.
To this day Volkswagen still limits itself to describing it as a premium midsize sedan for upper-class Chinese families. The design language that it incorporates is what distinguishes the ID family of the German brand, but in this case it is embodied inside a coupe-style sedan with a long wheelbase that promises great spaciousness in the passenger compartment. From an aesthetic point of view, the front is characterized by the presence of Matrix LED headlights very thin and a light bar that extends over the entire width of the front, an element that is also taken up in the rear.
At the moment Volkswagen hasn’t revealed much of the interior, as well as of the engine range which today remains a mystery. We know for sure, however, that the basis of the new ID. Aero sits on the MEB platform that houses the construction of all the other models of the ID family: to power the new ID. Aero will take care of a lithium-ion battery from 77 kWh, which will guarantee a driving range of 620 kilometers. Of the few technical and mechanical details released, Volkswagen has made it known that this electric sedan boasts a drag coefficient of 0.23.
