The Akkodis-ASP Mercedes are starting the weekend in Zandvoort on the right foot, the third round of the Sprint Cup of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.
The AMG # 89 shared by Timur Boguslavskiy/ Raffaele Marciello gets the best time in the morning free practice in 1’34 “101 under the beautiful sun that lights up and warms the Dutch track.
On the other hand, Valentino Rossi’s adventure begins badly, and after only 3 laps he ends up against the wall of turn 3. The ‘Doctor’ Audi R8 LMS # 46 was pulled out of the crane, but Team WRT spent the whole session so neither he nor his teammate Frédéric Vervisch was able to ride it to repair it.
Rossi had said he wanted to improve further, but for the moment, precious time has certainly been lost in view of the Pre-Qualifying, scheduled for 2.50 pm.
Returning to the standings, the Saintéloc Junior Team closes in second position, 0 “084 off the top, with the Audi # 25 of Patrick Niederhauser /Aurélien Paniswith the Akkodis-ASP team also taking third place with the Silver Thomas Drouet/ Casper Stevenson, armed with the # 87 Mercedes.
Attempto Racing’s Audi PROs (# 66 Pieter Schothorst/ Dennis Marschall) and Team WRT (# 33 Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer /Christopher Mies), followed by those of the Silver Cup conducted by Thomas Neubauer /Benjamin Goethe (# 30 Team WRT) e Gilles Magnus/ Nicolas Baert (# 26 Saintéloc Junior Team).
Three other Mercedes complete the ranking of the best 10. The # 88’s Jules Gounon/ Jim Pla (Akkodis-ASP) finishes eighth, putting the two Silver of their teammates behind Igor Walilko/ Petru Umbrarescu (# 86) and Christopher Froggatt /Eddie Cheever (# 93 Sky Storm Racing).
Behind these are the Audi of reigning champions Charles Weerts /Dries Vanthoor (# 32 Team WRT) and by Simon Gachet/ Christopher Haase with # 11 of Tresor by Car Collection. The # 12 of their colleagues Mattia Drudi/ Luca Ghiotto instead ends 17th and on gravel in the final with the Romagna driver at the wheel, causing the red flag that sanctioned the end of the tests prematurely.
Finally, moving on to PRO-AM, 1’35 “436 is the reference time set by McLaren # 188 of Garage 59 (Miguel Ramos /Dean Macdonald), second farthest behind is the Ferrari 488 # 21 of AF Corse (Stefano Costantini /Cédric Sbirrazzuoli).
On the virtual podium there is also the McLaren # 111 of JP Motorsport (Patryk Krupinski /Christian Klien), fourth the Ferrari # 52 of AF Corse (Louis Machiels /Andrea Bertolini).
