In the last period, students from all over the world have come across the famous Dad, or distance learning, which made it possible to follow school lessons from home by connecting from the PC.
If on the one hand this practice has helped the institutes to continue the normal teaching activities, on the other hand it has brought with it risks: the children and teachers are in fact more exposed to cyber dangers.
In this article we will see some tips to be able to deal with remote lessons safely and the essential tools to experience distance learning in the most comfortable way possible.
Tips for greater PC security
Your computer can conceal IT risks and dangers, which are easily avoidable if some precautions are followed. Here are some tips:
- Keep the software up to date, to avoid the risk of encountering viruses or hacker attacks and to fix any bugs;
- Use a password manager. In this way the passwords will be generated automatically and randomly, making them much more secure;
- Beware of scams. In fact, we often receive emails or phone calls with the aim of making us believe that on the other side of the screen someone has managed to get hold of our data: it is very important to never share any of them;
- Enable two-factor authentication, thus preventing anyone else from accessing your apps;
- Avoid connecting to public wi-fi networks, which are unsafe and expose you to unnecessary risks.
These are very useful tips to follow for those who spend a lot of time studying online on their pc. Both for those who are already enrolled in a course and for those who intend to do so in the future. On the web, in fact, as in real life, there is no shortage of scams, and unfortunately not only those of the computer type. Even in the phase of choosing the course to follow, it is important to take all necessary precautions.
Fraud danger: the importance of safety in choosing a university course
In the event that you were in the phase of choosing the faculty to enroll, it is important to rely only on online degree courses recognized by the Miur (Ministry of Education, University and Research), since they are the only ones to issue qualifications as valid as traditional ones.
Furthermore, relying only on recognized universities will avoid running into scams that could have really unpleasant consequences, such as the “achievement” of false degrees or diplomas, which have no legal value.
This is what happened in November 2018 in Rome, when two (now former) researchers from the university “La Sapienza” defrauded 20 engineering students who had enrolled in their own tarot course, set up to look like an official university master . The students were forced to pay 7 thousand euros for the course, instead of the 2 thousand approved by the academic senate. The two had managed to obtain a profit of 115 thousand euros in this way. Shortly after, they were sentenced to two years and four months for fraud.
To avoid running into similar situations, therefore, when choosing the university it is important to rely only on accredited institutions.
The tools to follow the lessons at a distance
To better enjoy the Dad experience, it is also useful to have the right equipment, which is why they can be very important:
- an ergonomic chair that allows you to keep one correct posture;
- headphones with noise canceling function, to isolate external noises;
- Bluetooth keyboard and ergonomic mouse;
- notebook, digital pen or graphic tablet to write your notes on a PC.
The right tools can really make a difference, and the importance of security when connected should not be underestimated, all the more so in view of an ever greater future spread of online teaching.
