German Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel has received a fine of 25,000 euros, after withdrawing from the Formula 1 drivers’ meeting, according to the International Motor Racing Federation (FIA).
The incident occurred on Friday when Vettel left the drivers’ meeting, “without a permit”, and expressed his anger during the meeting, according to the FIA statement.
“Drivers do not have the right to leave whenever they want. This is a breach of attendance requirements. Drivers of this caliber are role models for every driver around the world, and from the point of view of observers, Vettel did not live up to this standard during the incident,” the FIA statement noted.
According to media reports, tensions erupted during the meeting over the current implementation of the rules and legislation.
And the FIA decided to recall Vettel after the race, and the stewards ordered a fine of 25,000 euros, suspended until the end of the 2022 season, when the matter would be subject to any other possible violation of the FIA Sports Charter.
Villa confirmed that Vettel had apologized to the race director “without reservation” and they had had “very constructive conversations”.
