The Moscow Regional Court suspended the case of kingpin Igor Kokunov, also known as Vasya Bandit, as he escaped from house arrest. It became known REN TV on Tuesday, February 22.
The hearing in Kokunov’s case was scheduled for February 18, but, according to available information, he took off his bracelet the day before and fled. Currently, law enforcement officers are searching for the defendant.
56-year-old Igor Kokunov is accused of occupying the highest position in the criminal hierarchy (Article 210.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). He was arrested in June 2020. The investigation of the criminal case was completed at the end of April 2021 by the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Moscow Region. Shortly before his escape, the man was transferred by the court to house arrest.
According to investigators, Kokunov has been a thief in law and has been promoting criminal subculture since 1993. The man was repeatedly tried for theft, robbery, extortion and robbery.
On December 24 last year, two prisoners who were serving sentences for theft escaped from the Volgograd colony. The next day, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region reported that the convicts were detained in the Rostov region.
