The World Food Program warned of the cessation of its operations in the Gaza Strip, saying: Food and fuel supplies in the Strip are sufficient for 4 days at most.
Abeer Atifa, regional spokeswoman for the World Food Programme, said: The program expresses its deep concern about the closure of the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings, which poses serious challenges to the arrival of aid to those in need.
Abeer Atifa added, in a statement to Al-Ittihad, that within the framework of the warnings issued by the World Food Programme, its current stocks revealed that they are only sufficient to cover the needs of the residents of Rafah, Deir al-Balah and Khan Yunis for a period ranging between one and four days only, indicating that this dangerous situation warns of The outbreak of a comprehensive famine threatens to spread to all areas of the Strip.
Reports prepared by the World Food Program in Gaza confirmed the scale of the escalating humanitarian crisis, as the situation deteriorates daily and cases of hunger and malnutrition increase.
She said: “The program warned of a humanitarian tragedy that cannot be ignored and called for immediate measures to be taken to alleviate the suffering of the population and provide them with the necessary assistance. Closing the crossings places the population facing an unknown fate, as they suffer from an acute shortage of food and basic medical supplies.”
She added: “In light of these harsh circumstances, the international community must move quickly and take urgent measures to open the crossings and facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid, before the situation escalates to uncontrollable limits.”
She said: “It has become necessary to put an end to the suffering of the people of Gaza and provide them with the necessary support, before it is too late and the humanitarian crisis worsens intolerably.”
In a related context, the Country Director of the World Food Program in Palestine, Matthew Hollingsworth, said on his account on the “X” platform yesterday, “Our operations in Gaza will stop if food and fuel supplies are not available. It has become difficult to reach our main warehouse in the city of Rafah, in the south of the Strip.” He pointed out that only one bakery is still operating, and that no aid has entered from the crossings in the southern Gaza Strip for two days, according to the same source.
As a result of the war and Israeli restrictions, the residents of Gaza, especially in the Gaza and northern governorates, suffer from famine in light of the severe scarcity imposed by Israel on food, water, medicine and fuel supplies.
