A group of members of the US House of Representatives have proposed withdrawing US military forces from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia in response to the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day. This was reported on October 7 by the American newspaper The Washington Times.
According to the publication, several members of the representatives of the house – Tom Malinowski, Sean Castenay and Susan Wild – included such a measure in their already submitted draft “Tensive Partnership Act”.
“The sharp decline in oil production in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, despite the advances of the president [США Джо] Biden with both countries was a hostile act against the United States and a clear signal that they have chosen the side of Russia in its confrontation in Ukraine, ”the newspaper said in a statement from the lawmakers.
On the eve of the American human rights activist Ajamu Baraka commented on the negative reaction of the West to the decision of OPEC + to cut oil production. According to him, Western politicians cannot understand why Saudi Arabia will not “serve the whites” and will not allow the G7 to manipulate the oil market in order to harm Russia.
On October 6, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Washington was considering options for responding to the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production.
The OPEC+ countries made the corresponding decision on October 5. It was noted that such measures were taken to “halt the fall in oil prices caused by the weakening of the global economy.”
After that, Biden said that he was disappointed by the “short-sighted” decision of OPEC + to cut oil production. He noted that he intends to support the market with additional commodity interventions from strategic reserves.
Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, in turn, noted that such a decision is necessary to balance the market before the seasonal decline in demand.
On October 4, it was reported that the cut in oil production could reflect badly on the Democrats during the US midterm elections in November.
