The banks of the future? More and more online. But the user experience can improve
Over the years we have witnessed a real revolution in the field of banking services. Going to a branch, queuing at the counter, filling out forms and slips are now faded memories. Today, most operations are just a fingertip away, seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day. This has been possible thanks to the massive application of technology which is now going beyond the frontiers of AI.
Behind the screen of our cell phones, on which operations are carried out with a speed and simplicity that was unimaginable a few years ago, there are hi-tech companies that develop the platforms used by banking institutions. Companies engaged in constant research and innovation that combine great professionalism to respond to a highly competitive market. We talk about it with Base Digitale Group with Francesco Piovani, at the top of the Business Unit specialized in vertical banking and finance solutions.
Base Digitale Group has recently strengthened the sector with the entry of ATS into the group, how does the scenario change?
Base Digitale Group is highly specialized in the back office sector and in all those procedures that serve the accounting of finance, both in securities and in derivatives. Thanks to the new specialization on the front and middle office in the capital market finance sector, the offer is completed perfectly and makes our reality absolutely more complete and capable of satisfying the needs of all types of banking customers.
Technological innovation represents a determining factor for the competitiveness of the banking sector, both at the level of retail services and for the more advanced ones intended for the corporate segment. What is the added value for the end customer?
The Base Digitale Group team is already oriented not only at the top of technology from the point of view of cloud systems but also in the broader field of all banking software. BDG is also at the forefront in the use of artificial intelligence, in the management of big data and in the world of blockchain. Therefore, combining two software factories that are already so important makes the offer for the banking system even more complete and attractive from a technological point of view and consequently from that of efficiency and security.
Banks are one of the most technologically intensive sectors, where the increase in ease of use by the end customer corresponds to an ever-increasing complexity in terms of IT architecture and infrastructure. What other evolutionary steps can we imagine in the near future?
I believe that the main evolutionary steps will be those linked to the further improvement of the user experience. In recent years, all players have entered the world of apps and platforms for mobile and remote banking, but not all of these tools are yet up to the level of effective usability, especially for end customers who are not particularly “technological” or in any case it does not belong to those generations that are able to pick up a smartphone and do anything with it themselves. It is therefore essential to push ourselves more and more towards ease of use for the customer. This is not so immediate because technology often advances much faster than the ability to have a good user experience grows.
Does the acquisition of new skills also represent a step towards an expansion and diversification of the offer of advanced platforms dedicated to specific sectors such as UTP and UPL credits?
Certainly. Base Digitale Group was already evolving the offer of its systems in the field of “banking-insurance” and in that of wealth management. The acquisition will allow us to further develop the business sectors in the UTP and NPL credit management segment.
Research and development is fundamental for a group such as Base Digitale. What do you imagine the effects will be?
The effects are in full continuity with the evolution of Base Digitale Group. Over the years, huge investments have been made in research and development. Today we therefore have greater firepower to face the challenges we are already working on, and above all we will also have the possibility of tackling new business and innovation issues thanks to the increased capacity.
