Government says it will launch public notice in June; estimates investments of R$ 7.3 billion
The TCU (Union Court of Auditors) approved, this Wednesday (June 1, 2022), the concession of 15 airports, including Congonhas (SP), one of the largest in Brazil. They will be auctioned in the 7th Round of Airport Concessions, whose bidding should be launched in June.
The process was reported by Minister Walton Alencar and unanimously approved. According to the minister, “no irregularities or improprieties were identified that would advise against the continuation of the 7th Concession Round”.
The 15 airports will be divided into 3 blocks:
- general aviation: Campo de Marte (SP) and Jacarepaguá (RJ). Initial grant of R$138 million and R$560 million in planned investments;
- north 2: Belém (PA) and Macapá (AP). Initial grant of R$57 million and R$875 million in investments;
- SP/MS/PA/MG: Congonhas (SP), Campo Grande (MS), Corumbá (MS), Ponta Porã (MS), Santarém (PA), Marabá (PA), Carajás (PA), Altamira (PA), Uberlândia (MG), Uberaba ( MG) and Montes Claros (MG). Initial grant of R$ 255 million and R$ 5.89 billion in investments.
In a note this Wednesday (June 1st), Minister Marcelo Sampaio (Infrastructure) reiterated his intention to follow the original schedule and launch the public notice for the event in June, with the auction in the 2nd semester. The government estimates total investments of R$ 7.3 billion.
“With the approval of the Court of Auditors, the calendar stipulated by the federal government, even with a change in the format of the blocks, remains in force.“, said Sampaio.
The initial plan was to auction the Santos Dumont airport (RJ) together with the 15 approved by the TCU. This did not please the state government, which claimed that there was competition between the terminal and Galeão airport, further away from the state capital.
Then, with the return of Galeão by the concessionaire Changi, it was decided that the terminal would be re-bid in the same auction as Santos Dumont, in the 8th Concession Round.
