Space|The first two test flights had to be aborted.
A month after prolonged delays, the aerospace company Boeing managed to launch its manned Starliner capsule towards the ISS space station on Wednesday, according to the news agency Reuters and the US media, among others CNN.
The first two launch attempts were aborted due to various technical problems. The third attempt at Cape Canaveral, Florida was successful, and the two astronauts on board are scheduled to arrive at the ISS about a day after launch.
The Starliner is scheduled to dock at the space station for eight days and then return to Earth with the astronauts on board.
of the Starliner program manager Mark Nappi said at a news conference, according to Reuters, that tens of thousands of things have to go right for the launch to be successful.
“We got a perfect countdown and launch. – – We are really, really proud,” said Nappi.
Technical problems plagued the Starliner years before the first successful manned test flight. Originally, it was supposed to fly to the ISS in 2017. However, the first unmanned test flight did not succeed until 2022.
The competitor SpaceX’s Crew Dragon ship has managed to take astronauts to the ISS since 2020. Both programs are financed by the US space administration, Nasa.
