The Albarín grape variety, native to northwest Spain, is experiencing a renaissance. Although it is often confused with Albariño, its more famous relative, Albariño has characteristics that make its white wines unique and expressive, fresh and vibrant, a true hidden gem highly appreciated by lovers of unique wines. The Albarín grape, also known as branco lexítimo in Galicia, or raposo in Asturias, is grown in the northernmost region of the Iberian Peninsula, specifically in Asturias, Cantabria, León and northern Galicia (Betanzos), where its vineyards have remained. for centuries thanks to its good adaptation to cool and humid climates.
This variety arrived in the area along the coastal route of the Camino de Santiago, brought by pilgrim monks. Genetically, it comes from the French variety Savagnin Blanc, currently cultivated in the Jura wine region, which in turn derives from the Alsatian traminer. For this reason, Albarín retains its terpenic character (powerful primary aromas) and amoscatelado. It is a splendid variety perfectly adapted to cold and humid climates. Despite its long history, it was on the verge of disappearing due to phylloxera and the preference for other more commercial varieties.
However, thanks to the efforts of passionate winegrowers and visionary winemakers, Albarín has regained its place in the Spanish vineyard, although its cultivation continues to be a very minority, with about 196 hectares, the majority in León (96) followed by Asturias (42). , Cantabria (30) and Galicia (26). The Albarín varietal represents an opportunity to explore Spanish white wines beyond conventional varieties. Its unique character, its unique aromatic profile in which floral and citrus notes stand out along with a spicy touch, its ability to reflect the terroir, its history and its undiscovered potential, allow for an exciting experience. These six high-quality wines demonstrate this.

CORIAS GILFA 2022
This wine is born in the impressive Corias Monastery, founded by the Benedictines in the 11th century. It has vineyards at the highest and steepest levels that protect the Narcea River Valley, with old vines in glass. Its vinification is carried out in 1,200-liter Asturian oak (carbayu) barrels from the nearby Tineo mountains, where it subsequently remains for six months on its lees. Aroma of fleshy fruit, with notes of white flower, aromatic herbs, and the elegant presence of spices, oak and toast. Tasty and fresh, lively, with a fatty touch, it has a long fruity finish.
