Law enforcers, according to the protesters, said they could not go against the people. Also, a video appeared on the Web in which the protesters seized a military truck and forced the security forces to get out of it.
In Almaty, protesters attacked another ambulance on the way to a call. Videos of relevant content appeared on Telegram channels. The rioters even tried to get inside the vehicle.
As can be seen in the footage, the driver persuaded the audience to release the doctors.
During the riots in Almaty, about 500 people were beaten, including 130 women and old people. 120 vehicles were burned, including 33 ambulances and fire trucks.
The commandant of Almaty said that the city was attacked by radicals and extremists.
On Wednesday, the mass disorder in Kazakhstan was commented on by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov. He expressed confidence that the country will be able to independently cope with its internal problems.
Earlier that day, Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the country’s capital Nur-Sultan, as well as in Alma-Ata, Alma-Ata and Mangistau regions until January 19. In addition, Tokayev signed a decree on the resignation of the government of the republic amid mass protests.
The protests in Kazakhstan began on January 4 and continue to this day. On January 2, residents of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau took to the streets calling for lower fuel prices. The cost of gas in Kazakhstan has doubled since January 1 – from 60 tenge (10 rubles) to 120 tenge (20 rubles) per liter.
On January 5, the protesters broke into the administration building in Alma-Ata, the city hall caught fire. Also, protesters in Almaty set fire to the building of the prosecutor’s office and the office of the ruling party. In addition, the protesters seized the President’s Alma-Ata residence. Clashes between protesters and police also take place in the city center.
