Roskoshestvo: scammers sell fake airline tickets on aggregators
During the holiday period, scammers are inventing new schemes to deceive Russians when selling air tickets, warns the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo. The organization’s specialists told Lenta.ru about the popular tricks of attackers.
“Just recently, a new fraudulent scheme was uncovered: fake flight tickets appeared for sale on popular online aggregators. Moreover, the site owners did not even have an agreement with the air carrier. All directions of the counterfeit tickets led to or from the city of Sochi. All defrauded passengers will receive a refund for their flight or be offered the next flight in the same direction. However, there are no guarantees that fake tickets will not appear on sale again,” Roskachestvo noted.
There are other ways that scammers resort to to deceive Russians. One of them is phishing sites. They may imitate popular airlines, but the address bar will be slightly different. Experts have named several ways to check the resource.

First of all, you can check the site through the Whois service and find out how long it has existed. As a rule, phishing portals have been created recently. It is also worth paying attention to whether the site checks the accuracy of filling out personal data and whether it is possible to choose a row and seat on the plane. Usually, scammers try to transfer the visitor to the payment page as quickly as possible.
Roskachestvo also does not recommend buying tickets at too low prices. It is worth considering that the price differs between five and ten percent among different airlines.
In addition to airline websites, attackers also fake the pages of popular tour operators. Moreover, in the official App Store and Google Play stores you can find copy apps of well-known travel companies. A low rating and a small number of reviews may be a reason to be wary.
Check websites and apps carefully before purchasing airline tickets, travel packages and other services online. It is important to pay attention to the company’s reputation, check the availability of the necessary licenses and certificates, and also compare prices with market prices
“Do not sign a contract if it consists of only one sheet and does not include insurance. Pay attention to the receipt: travel agencies are required to use online cash registers, so you should be given a regular printed receipt, and not a handwritten cash order,” said Sergei Kuzmenko, head of the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo.
Earlier, Russians were told how scammers disguise themselves as famous bloggers.
