In Russia, from June 1, a ban on the use of studded winter tires by motorists in the summer will come into effect for the first time. The measure was introduced resolution of the Russian government, which came into force on September 1, 2023.
The document amended the “Basic provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the responsibilities of officials to ensure road safety.”
“On a vehicle of category M1 (no more than eight seats for passengers, almost all passenger cars belong to this category – approx. “Tapes.ru”) and N1 are equipped with tires with anti-skid studs, used in the summer (June, July, August),” reads one of the items in the list of faults and conditions under which the operation of vehicles is prohibited. This does not apply to Velcro.
Violators may face a fine of 500 rubles. Moreover, in 2023, when the ban on summer tires in winter came into force, the head of the traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, said that in this case motorists would not be fined for wheels that were out of season. He emphasized that every driver must independently prepare his car for safe driving on the roads in winter.
