The Russian authorities confirmed on Friday that their military forces are making progress on all fighting fronts in Ukraine.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said, “Our soldiers are moving efficiently and decisively, occupying better positions and expanding their areas of control in all directions.”
Fierce fighting continues, and the almost completely besieged industrial town of Avdiivka has become the last major center of battles in this region.
Russia launched a new attempt to control the town last October, and analysts indicate that Moscow’s forces have made gradual gains.
“Russian soldiers are causing severe damage to the Ukrainian armed forces and significantly reducing their combat capabilities,” Shoigu explained.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that its forces took control of the small village of Khromov on the outskirts of the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine.
Ukraine stated that Russian forces had “significantly intensified” their operations in the east, but stressed that its forces were steadfast.
Kiev launched a counterattack last June. But it is met with strong Russian defense lines.
Two weeks ago, Ukraine announced that it had pushed Russian forces to retreat a few kilometers from the banks of the Dnipro River.
