Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said on Friday that his country’s forces took control of 28 Ukrainian towns and villages in May.
Belousov added, during a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization held in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan, that the Ukrainian army “withdrew for a distance of between 8 and 9 kilometers in various important sectors in the Kharkiv region.”
The Russian Defense Minister indicated that his country has controlled 880 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory since the beginning of the year.
Belousov stated that the total losses of the Ukrainian army in May amounted to 35,000 soldiers and 2,700 units of military equipment.
The Minister of Defense did not address Russian losses, but stressed that Russia would achieve its goals for the special operation in Ukraine.
