Money does not enter the State’s treasury; private entity will manage the resources, which will be allocated to families affected by the floods
The government of Rio Grane do Sul has raised R$95,548,000 in donations via Pix on campaign “SOS Rio Grande do Sul”, according to the report released at 9:30 am this Saturday (May 11). The bank account is the same one used to help victims of the storms that hit the State in 2023.
According to the governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB), donations collected through the official key will be destined to the RS Banks Association, a private institution. The resources will be used to support the population affected by the floods, with the participation of social entities.
“Pix is not for the government. Pix is for an account of a private entity that belongs to the Rio Grande do Sul Banks Association. It is not money for the government to do, none of the actions we announce here will consume Pix resources”, said Leite during a press conference on Tuesday (May 8).
In addition to cash assistance, the State created a channel for general donations, such as non-perishable food, clothing and blankets. The vice president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) authorized international donations of used products to Rio Grande do Sul. The measure lasts 30 days and is restricted to the state.
Criticisms of Eduardo Leite
As the Pix money released by the government does not enter the State’s coffers, there was criticism on social media about the management and use of resources. Through X (formerly Twitter), deputies and journalists criticized the decision to allocate Pix’s funds to a private entity.

I authorized the government for the immediate use of Pix values. Solidarity raised R$ 70 million, an amount that is still, possibly, yielding. Eduardo Leite says he will bring together the Management Committee to decide when and where they will be used. Do you believe? Even solidarity was…

“the PIX is not for the Government, it goes to an account held by a private entity, an association of banks”. Unbelievable https://t.co/29Kbzrvp2P
