The former athlete Pedro García Aguado, Olympic and world water polo champion, became the winner of this Tuesday morning Survivors 2024. The presenter of the program Eldest brother, also broadcast on Mediaset España, has beaten the other three finalists: the rapper Arkano, the reality TV contestant Marieta Díaz and the firefighter Rubén Torres. There have been 104 days of competition in Honduras in an edition marked by controversy.
García Aguado surpassed Torres, second place, with 54% of the audience’s votes and thus won a check for 200,000 euros as the main prize, in addition to the weekly prize that he has received during these months of the contest. The former athlete agreed this season with Telecinco to participate for a few days in Big Brother VIP 8although in reality his agreement as a contestant was closed with Survivors.
There have been several absences during the last program of the season, since never before have so many contestants renounced the format as has happened on this occasion. The presenter and actress Rocío Madrid, one of the first expelled, explained at the end of May through their social networks to be “very sorry” for having been part of Survivors 2024. “Here they constantly play a very fine line that can be dangerous for the emotional health of a human being. They convinced me that it would be something that was not and that is why I wanted to get out of there quickly as soon as I saw the reality,” he explained in his letter. “I am very aware of what the word means bullying. Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to say bullying“But let’s go… Everyone has their own conscience, both those who direct and their puppets,” he commented on the treatment he considered he had received from other contestants and the organization of the program.
Another of the participants, Lorena Morlote, with whom she had had several confrontations in Honduras, has not been in the final program either, after being involved in several controversies with different contestants in the edition. And the influencer Laura Matamoros also released a statement in early June explaining who voluntarily decided not to continue participating in the program from the set after his expulsion. “From a perspective far from the contest and from home I see certain people act and continue with certain attitudes that do not correspond to the survival process. For this reason, I think a lot about my career and what has been seen of me. I really need to disconnect and rest emotionally,” he explained in his text, further fueling the already existing accusations of manipulation by those responsible for this edition.
All these controversies coincide with the change of production company responsible for Survivors. Cuarzo (Banijay) has taken the reins in this edition of the format that in recent seasons had been in the hands of Bulldog TV. In the semifinal, Gorka Ibarguren, one of the favorites to win, was eliminated in the televoting against Rubén Torres who, according to the organization, was so close that he only had 13 votes difference between both contestants.
The presenter and model Arantxa del Sol was banned by Mediaset España after publicly admitting that she had physically attacked one of her colleagues, Ángel Cristo Jr., at a moment in the program when the cameras were not recording. The controversial ethical code that the communication group began to apply, although randomly and not continuously, since last season, has served to make the participant disappear from the screen, although her confession came several weeks after that attack occurred, without the organization of Survivors communicated to the audience what happened until other media outlets leaked this information. “After reflecting deeply, being able to rest and be with my family again, I recognize and regret my actions,” explained Del Sol, also on his social networks, in reference to his aggression that was the result, As he explains in his text, “to pressure, coercion and nerves.”
Ángel Cristo Jr. himself, very critical of the contest even during its live broadcasts, was expelled in a disciplinary manner a few weeks ago, after jumping the security perimeter on the island of Honduras from which the program is broadcast. The escape of the son of the famous tamer and Bárbara Rey forced, according to Mediaset España, the Honduran army to intervene in the search for him. Carlos Sobera, one of the presenters of the program, explained on the day of this disciplinary expulsion that Ángel Cristo had been “in an unknown location” for three hours, on one of the country’s islands, “putting his life and that of the team he was at risk.” “I had gone out in search of him.” Even so, the contestant has been able to continue participating in the Telecinco program and in others on the network, such as Fridayunlike Arantxa del Sol.
This Tuesday’s final obtained its best mark of the season, with 22.1% Compartir and 1,677,000 viewers on average, a result somewhat higher than the previous season, but a far cry from the last broadcast two years ago: 2,216,000 viewers on average and a 27.4% share.
Although the audiences of Survivors 2024 have been much lower than those obtained by the format just a few years ago, reducing the screen share by almost half, it continues to be the space that works best on the schedule of a channel that is suffering from a profound audience crisis. For this reason, the space continues next Thursday, linking with its edition All Stars, which recovers 10 participants from its last editions. It is an unprecedented format in Spain that hopes to increase the channel’s audiences during the summer months, given the dominance of Antena 3 and the stalking of the public channel La 1, which has competed in recent months with Telecinco for second position. at monthly hearings.
