Kröv – After the partial collapse of a hotel in the Moselle town of Kröv in Rhineland-Palatinate, a dead person has been found. Eight other people are still trapped in the building and some are seriously injured, police in Trier announced this morning. The emergency services have been in contact with some of the buried people. The dead person has not yet been recovered.
According to police, one floor of the building in the Traben-Trarbach municipality collapsed at around 11 p.m. 14 people were in the building at the time, five of whom were able to escape unharmed. 31 residents from the immediate neighborhood had to be evacuated.
Police: “Extremely demanding operation”
Pictures from the scene of the accident from the night show that parts of the multi-story half-timbered building have collapsed. Concrete debris lies on the ground. “Due to the damage, this is an extremely demanding operation, as the building can only be entered by the emergency services with the greatest caution,” said a police report.
Around 250 helpers, including those from the fire brigade and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), are on site – including special forces and a rescue dog squad. The accident site is also being investigated using drones.
It was initially unclear how the building had partially collapsed. According to police, residents called the emergency services late on Tuesday evening. dpa
