Portovenere – Protest this afternoon in front of and inside the Municipality of Porto Venere, where the city council meeting was taking place. The demonstration was organized by environmentalist associations from La Spezia who have always been critical of the interventions and projects carried out by the Portovenere administration led by Matteo Cozzani in particular regarding the masterplan of Palmaria island.
Cozzani, former head of cabinet of the regional council, is involved in the investigation into corruption in Liguria and accused of corruption aggravated by having facilitated organized crime.
“Revoke the sell-off of our goods in self-defense”, “Bring the Park back to life, protect the Palmaria island and the UNESCO site“: these are some of the messages contained in the signs addressed to the current administration and to the mayor Francesca Sturlese, former deputy mayor of the Cozzani administration, who was asked for “a sign of discontinuity” compared to the actions undertaken in the past in the management of assets and territory.
The protesters also entered the council. Regional councilors Sansa and Centi were also present in the audience.
In the Municipality today, some motions linked indirectly or directly to the investigation involving the former mayor Matteo Cozzani and some projects linked to the territory were on the agenda.

The note from the Ligurian Association of Journalists, Order of Journalists of Liguria, Cdr del Secolo XIX and TgR Liguria
“Ligurian Association of Journalists and Order of Journalists of Liguria, together with the Cdr of the XIX Century and of TgR Liguria, strongly condemn what happened this evening in Porto Venere – we read in a note – During the municipal council, in which a discussion requested by the minority regarding the maxi-investigation into corruption that has engulfed Liguria, the majority voted to prohibit the journalists present from taking photos and videos. For the Ligurian Assostampa, the Cdr and the Order, who express full solidarity with their colleagues, this is a very serious fact which not only limits the right to freedom of the press, but affects the sacrosanct right of citizens to be informed. Politicians cannot claim the right to decide which images and footage can bear witness to what happens in a public session of a city council.”
