The Oscar nomination that the American actor Brendan Fraser received for his role in the film The Whale, has changed his life. Fraser, who has a chance to win the famous statuette in the best actor category, said that Fox News.
“I am absolutely thrilled and deeply grateful to the Academy for this recognition and for recognizing Hong Chau’s stunning performance and Adrien Morot’s incredible makeup,” Fraser said in a statement. His colleague Chau out The Whale was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category. Fraser himself played Charlie, an English teacher with morbid obesity. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Samuel D. Hunter.
“I wouldn’t have gotten this nomination without Darren Aronofsky, Samuel D. Hunter, A24 and the extraordinary cast and crew who gave me Charlie,” the actor writes. “A gift I certainly did not see coming, but it is one that has changed my life. Thank you!”
The Whalezimmediately stroked division after the film came out. On the one hand Fraser’s performance was praised, on the other hand there was criticism for the way the film portrays being fat as utterly miserable and something to be ashamed of. Also the use of
Fraser was very successful in the 90s with films such as George of the Jungle, but has largely disappeared from view in recent years. The actor competes against Austin Butler (Elvis), Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Paul Mescal (Aftersun) and Bill Nighy (Living). The presentation of the prestigious film awards will take place on March 12.
